CROM Update 043 with Guest Artist Drawnsword Flips Thru his Scoundrels Dread Art Book
In this episode of the CROM Updates Podcast, guest artist Drawnsword, who flips through his soon-to-be-released art book, Scoundrels Dread. The book is a collection of 32 pages of graphite pencil illustrations depicting dark, sci-fi fantasy scenes, particularly featuring bounty hunters. Drawnsword explains that the theme of his book is set in an "other galaxy" where exotic landscapes and bounty hunters searching for their prey dominate the artwork. He mentions that his designs are highly imaginative, allowing the viewer to piece together their own stories based on the scenes.
Throughout the discussion, Drawnsword provides insight into his creative process, explaining how some of the illustrations evolved from quick sketches into fully realized works of art. He goes into detail about several key pieces, such as a hover bike bounty hunter traveling through a wilderness, and a plant creature guarding a temple. The book includes detailed pieces like "Savage Pursuit" and "Behead the Crute," where each image is rich in fine detail, from hovering vehicles to eerie landscapes, with hidden narrative elements sprinkled throughout the compositions. Drawnsword also discusses his use of different pencil grades, including 2H to 6B, and how he brings his exotic, otherworldly visions to life with fine detail.
